Article I - Name:

The name of this organization shall be the PHI THETA KAPPA, PI IOTA Chapter.


Article II - Purpose:

The purpose of PI IOTA shall be to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. To achieve this purpose the PI IOTA shall provide opportunity for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence.

Article III - Membership:

Phi Theta Kappa, PI IOTA chapter is open to all Shoreline Community College students who qualify regardless of but not limited to age, gender, ethnicity, creed, or sexual orientation.

Active Member - Full-Time: To qualify for active Membership-Full-Time, a student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and be considered a Full-Time Student (12 or more Credit Hours) at Shoreline Community College.

Active Member - Part-time: To qualify for Active Membership-Part-Time, a student must have accumulated a minimum of 12 credit Hours, be enrolled in a minimum of 5 credit hours, and have a Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher at Shoreline Community College.

An active Member shall have all rights of membership including the right to vote, hold a chapter Office, or hold a Committee Chair.

Provisional Member: To quality as a Provisional Member, a student must be either: 1) an entering student with a High School GPA of 3.5 or higher (or a SAT Score of 1100 or higher), and is a full-Time Student at Shoreline Community Collage or, 2) a Full-time or Part-Time Student at Shoreline Community College who has achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher and meets all other requirements for membership

A Provisional Member shall have all the rights of membership except the right to vote, hold a Chapter Office, or hold a committee Chair.

Termination: Active or Provisional Membership will be terminated if the student’s cumulative GPA falls below 3.2 or the individual ceases to be a Full-Time Student for two consecutive quarters (excluding Summer Quarter)

Article IV - Officers:

The officers of PI IOTA will be: a President, Vice President, financial Secretary, recording Secretary, Public Relations Secretary, and Treasurer. These officers shall comprise the Executive Board. They will be elected by the majority vote of the voting membership for a one year term, beginning Fall Quarter of the Academic Year. Any vacancies shall be filled by majority vote of the remaining Executive Board. Regular elections shall take place at the end of spring Quarter, and two weeks notice in writing shall be sent to all Active Members.


Article V - Duties of Officers:

The President shall preside at all Executive Board Meetings and Membership Meetings. The Vice President shall attend all meetings of the Executive board and of the Membership and shall preside in the President’s absence. The Vice President shall also serve as the coordination of any committees that may arise. The Treasurer shall handle all financial matters. The recording secretary shall maintain all Minutes and records. The Public relations secretary shall handle all correspondence. All budget requests shall be signed by the President, Vice President, Treasurer, or Advisor, and co-signed by any other member of the Executive Board.

Article VI - Advisor:

The Advisor shall be a Shoreline Community College Faculty Member, shall be elected or fill a vacancy under the same rules as our Officers in ARTICLE IV. The Advisor will advise and counsel the Executive Board and the Membership.


Article VII - Funding:

The PI IOTA chapter will annually petition the Student Body Association of Shoreline Community College for funding to include a base budget and advisor stipend. Pi Iota chapter will fundraise as needed.


Article VIII - Amendments:

The Constitution and By-Laws may be amended by a majority vote of the voting membership. At least two weeks notice shall be sent to all Active Members concerning the proposed Amendment changes(s).
